Mothering Sunday

Hargreaves class would like to say it with flowers!

This week, the children learnt why we celebrate Mothering Sunday and also about the different meanings of the phrases Mothering Sunday and Mother's Day, although they found out these are mostly interchangeable in the modern day. They also found out that the day happens at a different time of the year in different counties. Then they made their own mother a hand print tulip.

This week in Nursery...

Well, the chicks have grown! We will miss them when they go to their new homes tomorrow :(

Chick holiday

Yesterday the chicks left the nursery for a short holidy and spent an hour in each of the KS1 classes. When they arrived in Hargreaves, the children tried very hard to stay quiet, so as not to scare the birds. Each child had the opportunity to hold a chick, should they wish.

French exchange students visit Horowitz Class

On Monday 20th March, Horowitz Class were lucky enough to have a visit from some French students who were staying in the area on a French exchange, linked with Presdales and Richard Hale.  

We spent the lesson practising our French, by asking the students questions about themselves. Then they practised their English by asking us questions. Although, we were all really nervous about speaking French to actual French students, the nerves eased as we started our conversations.  

Maths work in Horowitz Class

This week in Horowitz Class, we are learning about finding missing angles. When we arrived at school yesterday we found lots of green tape on the tables. Mrs Anstead told us we were allowed, just this once, to write on the tables around the tape.  First, we identified whether the angles were acute (less than 90 degrees) or obtuse (more than 90 degrees). Then, we went on to work out what the angles were. We used a protractor to measure some of them, but soon discovered that once we knew some of the angles we could do calculations, rather than use a protractor, to find the other angles.  It was lots of fun!

Update on the chicks...

The chicks enjoyed their weekend break at Miss.Orphanides house! They are now back in school and looking a lot bigger! They are much noisier and trying to fly a little. 

On Tuesday the will be going 'on holiday' to each KS1 Classroom and on Thursday to KS2.
