The Rickshaw Challenge 2016

BloggerImage

Today, I was fortunate to accompany Year 5 and 6 to the high street, to cheer on the Children in Need rickshaw riders. As we stood and awaited their arrival, the children behaved with all round good humour and patience. They were entertained by Pudsey Bear, sang "We are the children of Christ Church school" and "Community" which were both well received by the waiting crowds and watched the interactive map on the iPad.

We were told by the BBC camera crew that the children brought a great energy to the whole event and were thanked for bringing them out to support the cause. I want to thank Mrs Vaughan and the members of the Year 5/6 teaching team who accompanied the children and allowed Mrs Beckwith and I to go with them.

Our children and staff were shown on the One show and Matt Baker made the age old "Ware, where?" joke, but since he lives in Hertfordshire, we can forgive him!

Horowitz visit Ware Museum

On Thursday 3rd November, Horowitz Class visited Ware Musuem. We enjoyed our visit and had a great time. We made gas mask boxes to protect the gas masks and learnt lots about World War Two.  We went into the World War Two bunker and found out what it would have been like to have sheltered from an air raid.

Money for The Gambia

BloggerImage

Today Margaret Meeks, from Helping visited us. She came to collect a cheque for nearly £900. This was the money the children raised last term during their class fund raising activities. Well done everyone!

Margaret told us that some of the money would be used to buy a bookcase and books to fill it, as well as some exercise books. Once the charity have returned to The Gambia, in late December, she will tell us what else the money was spent on.

The Gruffalo

Last week, the children in Keystage One were learning about rhyming couplets. We decided to do this by looking a a book known by, most of, the children - The Gruffalo!

The children looked at the rhyming patterns in the book and how and why Julia Donaldson had chosen particular words. Then they had a go at re-writing the couplets. Here are a few examples.

Tom:- All was happy in the deep light wood. A mouse found a blackberry and the blackberry was good.

Alice:- All was calm in the muddy still wood. The squirrel found a  chestnut and the chestnut was good.

Gregor and Joseph:- All was noisy in the deep wet wood. The monkey found a banana and the banana was good.

Oscar:- All was dark in the green dry wood. The crocodile found a sweetie and the sweetie was good.

Molly:- All was calm in the deep dark wood. The fox found a banana and the banana was good.

Huey:- All was quiet in the dark dark wood. The snake found a chestnut and the chestnut was good.

Max:- All was noisy in the light green wood. The bear found a banana and the banana was good.
