Christmas in KS1

All three classes have been busy learning about the Nativity story, making Christingles and took party in an activity afternoon. They have made cards, watched a Christmas film, watched the Year 3 and 4 play, been to church, sang carols by candlelight and now the day is almost upon us!

Mrs Matthews, Miss Stickley and Miss Ball would like to thank you for all your generous gifts and cards and hope you have a peaceful and merry Christmas.

Christmas Events

On Monday we all enjoyed our Christmas treat. The Flying Pizza Company performed Hobbity tales for us and much laughter was to be heard.

Wednesday saw us partaking in Christmas Dinner and delicious it was too. Some siblings even got to sit together!

Friday saw the Nursery holding their Christmas party; this is always a treat for all involved.

With one more week to go, cards are being delivered, Years 3 and 4 will perform to their family and friends, we will hold our Christmas service and then the real excitement will begin. Do not forget our Church have lots of different services over Christmas, including the Christmas Eve one, especially for primary School age children and their families.

Christmas displays

Just in case you were unable to come to the school Bazaar, and so have not been down the main corridor recently, here is a selection of the Christmas displays that each class has contributed towards.

Now that Advent has begun we hope you will have a chance to visit school for yourself at some point to see these, either for Monday assembly, a class assembly, the EYFS production, the Year 3 and 4 production or when volunteering in school.

Christmas is coming....

The traditional hoops are up in the hall, the corridor displays are taking shape, plays are being rehearsed, Christmas cards are being ordered and the PSA are busy sorting out the last minute arrangements for the bazaar. See you Saturday!

Emergency 999

This half term, KS1 are learning about the people who respond when we phone 999. We were extremely fortunate that Mrs Pearce was able to visit us. She is a paediatric nurse who works in a hospital and undertakes home visits.

Some of the items a paediatric nurse uses on a daily basis.
She gave us a marvellous insight into her job and brought along loads of her day to day equipment to show us. This was fantastic because, it means, that should any child in Hargreaves, Potter or Butterworth ever find themselves in A and E they will be familiar with much of the equipment.

A head or arm injury are very common in children
The children were enthralled with her description of how she cares for people and her serving heart was an inspiration to us all. I hope that should any child, in our school, need hospital care they would get a nurse as sympathetic as child friendly as Mrs Pearce.

A common intervention for a paediatric nurse,
but one which can be scary for child and parent.
We would like to thank Mrs Pearce for sharing her job with us and providing us with a through insight into her work. We all really enjoyed learning from her. (Thanks also to her daughters, who acted as the patients.)
