P.E

All three classes in KS1 have been fortunate to have had some P.E sessions from Miss Easter, a P.E teacher at Chancy. She has been coming into school on a weekly basis to share her skills with the Year 1 and 2 children.

The focus of these sessions has been gymnastics. The children have learnt how to work alone, in pairs and in groups. They have learnt different types of jumps and balances; how to put a routine together and then perform it for the rest of the class and how to use their muscles to help them hold the positions.

Below are some examples of their hard work.

Big Maths

As you know the children at Christ Church now have a weekly "Big Maths Beat That!" challenge. Each week they try to beat their best ever score.

Big Maths Learn It sheets (Reception to Year 6) are now available on the school website and the link to the timer is also there. This is the same jingle that will be used in class to time the challenges. (This is on the Big Maths website and can be downloaded for free.)

Please help!

The children have been very busy doing a little gardening.  They are really enjoying planting, digging and watering.  We have planted a few herbs, some carrot seeds and salad leaves seeds.
Please help us develop the garden further by donating compost, pots, plants, herbs etc.

Thank you!!

Collage

Collage is the theme of  the KS1 art lessons this half term. The children have looked at different ways to combine paper, colours and shapes. They have produced some stunning results. Some ideas are totally original and others based on well known pieces of art such as "The snail" by Matisse.

Circus gallery

Potter, Butterworth and Hargreaves thoroughly enjoyed their circus day. Mr. Fantastiko started the day off with a circus assembly, the children loved seeing him ride his unicycle.

After this, each of the KS1 classes had a chance to take part in a circus skills workshop. They all had a chance to balance a feather, spin a plate, use a ribbon, pedal, roll the flower sticks, use the stilts, spin a poi and the most popular activity, the diablo.

The children impressed Mr. Fantastiko with their circus history knowledge. Well done year 1 and 2!

The last part of their session was choosing which skill to showcase in the performance for their parents; this proved a hard choice for most.

When asked for their thoughts on the day most said it was fantastic, funny, or the best day ever. They all felt they had learnt something new and enjoyed the chance to show their families what they had done. Lots want to try the skills again and a few want to work in a circus.

Fairtrade

You may remember that the Year One children, from Hargreaves and Butterworth classes, made a Fair-trade collage. This was entered in to the Ware competition and has been displayed in the town Library for the last few weeks.

Today we were delighted to find out that we had won the competition. Paul Watson came to school and presented each class with a prize. Butterworth received two hand puppet kits, Hargreaves a wall hanging and each children received a Kit Kat - which are fairtrade snacks.

Mr Watson told us that our collage had the largest number of different items on it. (We did not tell him we still had plenty left over that would not fit on the paper!). This was one of the reasons it won.

Mr Watson also told us that during the Ware Festival the Fairtrade group intend to take part in the parade. He has invited all the Year 1 children to join in on this day and take part in the parade carrying their collage. More details nearer the time. The theme for the carnival is Food Glorious Food.

Well done Year One.

Hargreaves assembly

Hargreaves class are a very diverse group of children. Each has their own interests and likes. I love finding out what the children do out of school or enjoy doing in school and this week we used our assembly as a way to celebrate these skills and interests.

Over the last few days, with the help of Mrs D'Arcy and Mrs Henning we have rehearsed our class assembly and chosen the music. Today, Mrs Henning and I were delighted to help Hargreaves class share a few of their favourite things with the rest of the school and their relatives.

We hope you enjoyed watching the assembly as much as the children enjoyed taking part. Who knew we has such artists, circus performers, dancers, footballers, sportsmen, musicians and model makers. I also had fun selecting the music to accompany the children.

Thank you to everyone who came to watch and the lovely comments the children were given afterwards.
