Orienteering at Kingswood

Kingswood Monday 18th May

All OK at Kingswood

We had a very good journey, with no traffic and we arrived in good time. Unfortunately we had rain when we arrived which soon subsided by the time we started our first activities. We have had a very busy first day which started with bed making! We then went on to do some different activities which included Den making, circus skills and bouldering. All of the children enjoyed the food as they had lots of choice including chicken fajitas, spaghetti bolognaise and macaroni cheese. They have also had fun making bottle rockets this evening and some have even attempted a shower! We have had trouble with the Wi-if today (which we have now managed to fix!) so photos will be following soon :-)

Year 1 allotment

The potatoes are beginning to grow and the onions and beans have been planted.

People who help us

Hargreaves class were very fortunate that Mrs Pearce, who is the mother of a child in our class, agreed to come and talk to us about her job. In PSHE we had looked at some information and pictures about "people who help us", but on Friday we got to met a real life nurse!

Once again Mrs Pearce explained what she does and why. She reassured the children by explaining and demonstrating some common procedures and equipment. The children were able to handle some items, such as an oxygen mask and inhaler. Mrs Matthews and Miss Wake dressed up in some of Mrs Pearce's uniform items, to show that nurses are just like you and I.

Thank you Mrs Pearce for an enjoyable and informative visit.  One of the children was heard to comment,  "This is really interesting" to the person next to them and so we hope you visit again soon.

K'NEX DAY

K'NEX DAY 27.4.15

Well done to all the Year five children who took part in this years K'NEX challenge! The children worked really well in pairs to complete the challenge.

The task was to design a Mars Rover using a set criteria.  The children had to ensure their model's would move over unlevel terrain and they also had to consider features such as satellites and cameras.

The winners for the morning session were Ruby, Isobel F and Ronja. 

The winners in the afternoon were Maeva and Harley.

Well done to them!!

KS1 - Friday afternoon

Learning is fun in KS1, however Friday afternoon is particularly so!

We start the afternoon with a phonics lesson and everyone gets to enjoy playing games, watching Geraldine giraffe or using Espresso. 

Then comes music, and Charanga ensures we have fun. Hargreaves and Butterworth have been learning a song called "Round and Round" and Potter a unit called "Zootime".

The children have sung, played the glockenspiel and used many of the untuned percussion instruments. Hargreaves class really enjoyed their session today and most can now sing the song and play the correct notes to accompany the singing.

After music comes afternoon playtime, Golden time and then home time.

1st April - Easter events

Today, we celebrated Easter in two different ways. 

The day started with our traditional service. Nursery sang to us, Reception paraded, KS1 did the reading, Lower KS2 performed a song and Upper KS2 prayed. We all enjoyed the service and are sure you will agree, the children sang our first song beautifully. This is a new song to school and we have only being singing it for a week!

We then ended the day with the PSA Egg Hunt. It was a delight to see the families investigate the field and work together to try to solve the clues. 

Everyone who entered was rewarded with a small prize and after the children had gone home, the PSA selected the individual class winners and delivered a chocolate egg to each classroom ready to be awarded in the morning!
